New Release Round-Up (July 29, 2021)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases.


Blightbound

Blightbound is a cooperative action dungeon-crawler with local and online co-op for up to three players, with AI allies also available. Each player selects a character from twenty unique heroes and descends from their mountain stronghold into the blight-infested world below. Each hero is from one of three classes: warrior, assassin, or mage. Players will be able to build up a home base with merchants and training rooms, while a bounty system offers additional bonuses.


Chernobylite

Chernobylite follows Igor, a physicist and former employee of the Chernobyl Power Plant who is investigating the mysterious disappearance of his fiancé, Tatyana, thirty years ago. The game recreates the real-life Exclusion Zone site using 3D-scanning technology and features free exploration, stealth, combat, crafting, base-building, resource management, and a non-linear story. Eldest Souls

Eldest Souls is an action RPG where humanity has imprisoned and built civilizations on the temples of the Old Gods. Eventually the Old Gods escape and begin wreaking havoc around the lands. Mankind’s only hope is a lone warrior, armed with a giant sword made from pure Obsydian. The game features challenging boss-rush encounters with players able to customize their character with different builds and ability combinations.


Final Fantasy I-III (Pixel Remasters)

The pixel remaster versions of Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, and Final Fantasy III include redrawn 2D pixel characters and background graphics, including character pixel designs from the games’ original artist Kazuko Shibuya. They also include rearranged soundtracks, controller and touch controls, updated UIs, and auto-battle options as well as new features including a bestiary, an illustration gallery, a music player, and the ability to save at any time. The content of each of the remasters is based on the original release versions.

Similar releases are planned for Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, and Final Fantasy VI, but have not yet been dated. In addition, the previous mobile versions of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II and previous Steam versions of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI are no longer available to purchase.


Fuga: Melodies of Steel

Fuga: Melodies of Steel takes place in a setting inspired by France during World War II. The game follows a group of eleven children in command of a tank as they aim to rescue their captured families. The tank has a very powerful weapon, the Soul Cannon, but using it requires one of the characters to sacrifice themselves. There will be twelve chapters in the game, with multiple endings and a New Game Plus-style mode that lets players carry over experience gained in both completed and failed playthroughs.


Nanotale

Platform: Mac, Linux (previously released on PC, Google Stadia)

Typing adventure RPG Nanotale is set in a world on the verge of destruction. Players control Rosalind, a novice Archivist who sets out on a journey to collect samples that may provide a key to the world’s dying state. The game supports multiple keyboard layouts with English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese language options.


NEO: The World Ends with You

Platform: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch

NEO: The World Ends with You is a sequel to The World Ends with You and follows Rindo, a young resident of Shibuya. Sensing that something is amiss during an otherwise normal day, he comes across a girl who identifies herself as a Reaper. Rindo plays along and decides to join in the Reaper’s Game, where participants fight monsters called Noise using superpowered pins. A demo is available to download that lets players carry over their save progress to the full game.


The Ascent

The Ascent is a cooperative action RPG that puts players in control of indentured servants of The Ascent Group, a corporate metropolis, as it mysteriously shuts down, sending the city into chaos. Players explore the vertical city and fight against corporations and gangs trying to fill the power vacuum.


The Forgotten City

The Forgotten City is a time-looping mystery adventure based on the mod of the same name for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It has been re-envisioned as a standalone game set 2,000 years in the past in a Roman city. The game sees players reliving the final days of that city and solving a mystery, where a curse means that if a single person sins then everyone dies. It features a non-linear story with character creation and multiple methods of solving problems.


Tribes of Midgard

Price: $19.99

Tribes of Midgard is a co-op survival action RPG set in a procedurally generated world. Players can play solo or join a tribe of up to 10 players. It features two modes; Saga Mode sees players build and craft their way to a showdown against world bosses before the arrival of Fimbulwinter, while Survival Mode sees players trying to defend their village from a flow of enemies that get stronger the longer they survive. There are four classes, each with a unique play style, as well as multiple weapon types.
