Children of Morta’s Family Trials Update Now Available

11 bit studios and Dead Mage have released their latest free update for hack-and-slash RPG Children of Morta. The Family Trials update adds the eponymous combat-focused game mode, which takes players to the unique, corrupted Zyklus dungeon.

Zyklus features changing rules and environments, tasking players with progressing through a randomised dungeon with most progress lost whenever they die. Players need to complete particular objectives to advance through each floor, such as protecting labourers from waves of enemies or fighting in an arena. It is separate from the main story mode, giving players access to the full family and all of their abilities from the outset.

Family Trials features two additional difficulty levels: Hard and Insane, which require players progress through more levels to be successful. It replaces the Skill Tree with a new Talent System, with Runes now forming part of the Talent System rather than being dropped by enemies. By completing certain objectives, players can unlock rewards that will be help them in subsequent runs such as bonus HP and free items. Family Trials uses gem shards as its currency, which can be used in a new shop to buy and upgrade equipment or items.

The Family Trials update is now available for free on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. 11 bit studios and Dead Mage also released a free Family Fireside Fables pack, which features six stories read by the game’s narrator Ed Kelly.
