Persona 5 Scramble Livestream Provides Gameplay, Details
Atlus held its first livestream for Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, the action RPG spin-off sequel to Persona 5. The two-hour presentation included the first official gameplay footage as well as a ten-minute Morgana’s Report trailer that shows the game’s story, the new Shibuya location, and a small amount of combat.
Persona 5 Scramble is being developed by Atlus alongside Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force studio. The game takes place in the summer following the events of Persona 5 as the Phantom Thieves travel to a number of cities across Japan including Shibuya in Tokyo, Sapporo, Sendai, Osaka, and Okinawa. New characters will appear and play important roles in the story, including an amnesiac girl called Sophia and a police officer called Zenkichi Hasegawa.
The game will include an action combat system, with attacks made using the square and triangle buttons on PS4. When players summon a Persona, time will temporarily stop and players can switch skills using up and down on the D-pad, while left and right will change Persona for the protagonist. The game will include firearms, which will also cause time to halt when used. Persona fusion and befriending will be present in the game. Like Persona 5, combat is initiated by coming into contact with enemy symbols, and encountering enemies from behind or above will provide an advantage. Other elements include versions of the Baton Pass system for switching party members and All-Out Attacks.
Persona 5 Scramble will be released for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan on February 20, 2020. Atlus revealed that those who have Persona 5 or Persona 5 Royal save data on PlayStation 4 or Super Smash Bros. Ultimate save data on Nintendo Switch will receive the Persona 5 Sound Set, which lets players use Persona 5′s “Last Surprise” or Persona 5 Royal’s “Take Over” as the battle music for Persona 5 Scramble.
