More Characters, Sentinels, and Kaijuu Revealed for 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
Atlus has released a host of new information regarding the cast of supporting characters, the Sentinels piloted by the main cast, and the kaijuu they will face off against in Vanillaware’s 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. The game takes place after a catastrophe hits the planet following the arrival of large meteorite-like objects and features time-travel elements. The game is set to be released for PlayStation 4 in Japan on November 28, 2019.
In addition to the game’s thirteen main characters, players will run into other students and staff of Sakura High School, such as Erika Aiba, a student who fancies herself as the Watson to Takamiya’s Holmes when it comes to investigating Minami’s disappearance; Morimura-Sensei, the school’s nurse and teacher of class 1-B; and part-time instructor Tetsuya Ida who is secretly the chairman of the Special Intelligence Agency spy organization. Then there’s Shippo, the talking cat; BJ the robot; Takemi Wajima, gang leader and student at Nigakuri High School; and Heizou Onishi, a firm but kind-hearted officer from the juvenile crimes section of the Kamazumi Ward police department.
In battle, the game’s main characters pilot large mechas, known as Sentinels, the come in four varieties: melee, balanced, ranged, and aerial support. The melee-type First Generation Sentinels specialize in close-range combat and are piloted by Nenji Ogata, Ei Sekigahara, and Takatoshi Hijiyama (no. 10, 11, and 12). Fighting from a distance, Ranged Third Generation Sentinels are under the command of Tomi Kisaragi, Natsuno Minami, and Keitaro Miura (no. 16, 17, and 19). The Fourth Generation, or aerial support, Sentinels can take to the skies to aid their ground-based counterparts in battle, and are piloted by Shuu Amikuchi, Yuki Takamiya, Renya Gouto, and Megumi Yakushiji (no. 20, 21, 22, and 23).
Lastly, several of the enemy forces, known as kaijuu, have also been revealed. The large metal monsters that threaten the city include the comparably small eight-meter-tall Workers that try to overwhelm with sheer numbers; the 35-meter armored Jimora; the missile and gattling-gun-wielding Twin Tail; the self-detonating Drum Mine; Apsos that posses the ability to shield other kaijuu from damage and must be dealt with swiftly; the small scout drone Hunters and the giant airborne Tera Carrier that releases them in waves; Drill Fly, a 30-meter flying kaijuu that can dig into the ground; the Mobile Fac kaijuu, a walking factory that uses surrounding materials to continually create more kaijuu; and the behemoth High Quad, a giant over 100 meters tall equipped with a plasma cannon that can even melt the Sentinels’ armor.
