RPG Backtrack Episode 200: An Octopus at the Opera
It was a time when relatively few RPGs crossed the Pacific, and not all of those that did were memorable. For our 200th episode, talking about the most operatic Final Fantasy on the Super Nintendo just seemed like a great idea — and it was.

By some accounts, the longest Backtrack ever!
Really bummed I couldn’t make this week, but then thinking about it I haven’t actually played through FFVI in some time, time to fix that.
Re: CRPG Club – Valkyria Chronicles (original) on Switch is $20, same as MSRP on other platforms – it just doesn’t go on sale as often.
I remember seeing FF3 for the first time when my brother’s friend brought over the game to show off the ending, and I remember how he broke the Kefka fight in half with Ultima spam. I tried to get into the SNES version but didn’t end up beating it until the GBA. In retrospect, that should’ve been a sign.
Ah. Good to know. I just know when my brother was looking at buying it, it was running $30-40 while I was seeing like $10 on steam.
Should have been a sign of what?
Congrats for the 200 episode m I believe this is my first time commenting in the show. I been following the show since episode 15.
For me ff6 is a great entry in the series(even know that ff5 is my favorite). A great addition to a SNES collection. With the version on steam or cellphones, just cause the sprites. People hate it. But still have the great experience overall.
About compile heart/ idea factory trashing vforvthe last 5 episodes in a row. I been a fan for the neptunias and some of the other games (minus agarest, those are shit). Mary skelter is very good. I been addicted to dungeons crowlers and this games is fun. Out of the PURIFICATION system you have to done at least ones for Chara in your party(there is one Mike will feel uncomfortable later). Mary skelter is a fun game.
And Dead end request via make by the same team so… There XD. Congrats again guys and I hope one day a compile heart episode from you guys . I even paid you money for it . Thanks
Long-time listener? That was me last year and then I bit the bullet, tried out and joined the staff & have enjoyed being on the Backtrack. What other Compile Heart games do you enjoy or would enjoy hearing about?
First, thank you for listening. It is AWESOME that you have listened to nearly all the shows. That, my friend, is dedication.
Second, we will definitely discuss these comments on the air. And, I am pretty curious as to what other CH games you enjoy, as well 🙂
Thank you again! -Phil
Yeah I got an little behind on podcast backlog and was saving this one. I sit down and hit play and see the nearly 5 hour epic ness of this one! Heck yeah, I hope it’s as good as it looks, since like many of you ff6 is my all time favorite game.
