RPGCast – Episode 488: “Hey There’s A Spider Down Here!”

A surprise disappointment in our Now Playing, a surprise announcement in the News, and Chris shouting ELDER SCROLLS really loudly in the briefs (and beyond) sum up this week’s podcast. Please, someone get that man a donut.

Puddleglum is the best doctor! If people not letting something not be conserved worked, I feel like we would have had a new Chrono game some time in the last 18 years.

QOTW: Good, I guess. A reminder I still need to finish the first game.

I take the news to mean that XSEED is really becoming more and more of a Marvelous-focused operation, which is a shame.

Also that by the time I finish both of the first two Cold Steel games they’ll be porting III and IV to Switch 2.

Listening to the beginning and y’alls impressions of Kingdom Hearts, Tokyo Xanadu, and Vespiria, I’m reminded of the new AT&T commercials with the “It’s just OK” taglines.

ToCS III news is great (although was a little more excited about Persona Q2 getting an Australian ratings… hint hint)! Loved the first first one and the first in the Sky game. Need to get on to both #2s sometime soon!

  4. I’m rather tired of the whole “hi-jinx in the hot springs” routine, so I love the way Bravely Second subverts it. You see the boys talking with no one mention of taking a peek at the girls. Instead, the girls looks over at the boys and make fun of them. Yew suggests the guys peek at the girl in revenge, but he’s scared off the idea by Danzaburo, since one of them is his sister.

I don’t have any thoughts on Trails of Cold Steel 3. Mainly because the only entry in The Legend of Heroes series I’ve ever played was Trails in the Sky 1. And even though I loved it, time constraints between work, YouTube, and Twitch (which you can find at FeatherHoof Gaming on YouTube and twitch.tv/featherhoof . Heehee. Plugs :D) keep me from dedicating time to more than one game at a time. That one game right now being Tales of Vesperia DE which, contrary to the cast’s opinion, is totally amazing. Granted, the abrupt switching between Troy Baker’s voice and Grant George’s voice is jarring. They should’ve just redubbed Yuri’s voice entirely. Baker is obviously the superior Yuri voice, but it’d be better than what we got. Still, I’m enjoying the completed, final version of my all time favorite Tales game. Too bad they didn’t add an option to murder Karol and remove him from the story. He’s the only thing I don’t like about the game.

My main thought about Cold Steel III is that this series belongs on a handheld – but no handheld ever seems to last long enough to get a full series in, unless you’re proficient in Japanese. Neither the PSP nor the Vita stuck around long enough to finish (in the West) the series that began on each platform. Falcom has previously said it doesn’t see its audience migrating to Switch (short-sighted?), but surely someone can talk it round…
