XSEED Games has announced that it will be releasing the PlayStation 4 versions of Nihon Falcom’s The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II in the west. The PS4 versions of the games — which were released in Japan under the subtitles Kai – Thors Military Academy 1204 and Kai – The Erebonian Civil War in March 2018 and April 2018, respectively — will be released in North America and Europe in early 2019 and come in two separate physical editions, each priced at $49.99:

  • 50 Mira replica Collector’s Coin
  • Musical Selections CD containing 21 full-length tracks
  • SteelBook case featuring only artwork, with a separate outer package design

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II Relentless Edition

The PlayStation 4 versions of the games will feature both English and Japanese voice-acting, including the 5,000+ additional English lines per game that were added to games’ PC editions. The PC editions will also be receiving the Japanese voice-over pack as a free update. Marvelous Europe will be publishing the game in Europe.

Trails of Cold Steel and Trails of Cold Steel II were originally released for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in North America, with the first game finishing third in RPGamer’s Game of the Year award in 2015 and the second winning in 2016. The games are the first two parts of the Erebonian Arc in the wider series that also includes the Trails in the Sky trilogy. Trails of Cold Steel III was released for PlayStation 4 in Japan in 2017, with Trails of Cold Steel IV also releasing in the country last week. No announcement has been made regarding western releases for Trails of Cold Steel III and Trails of Cold Steel IV.

I just recently picked up these 2 games used, for PS3. They are currently resting in my massive backlog. I’ll probably start playing the first title around 2020 at the earliest.

Thanks to all the ample warnings I’ve managed to avoid all spoilers, too.

Yeah, I guess I’ll buy these for the 4th time.

As to spoilers, it isn’t easy to avoid when Falcom uses them as a part of its PR 🙂

Man I logged a lot of hour into the first 2 games on PS3 so I really don’t feel the need to get the PS4 versions of the same game. I really hope if part 3 comes out their is some way to transfer my clear save from PS3 to use on PS4…

Wow they really want to milk every penny out of first 2 games. Rather put my money in ordering a Cold Steel 3 CE than triple dip. But if it furthers grows fanbase having on PS4 I am for it.
