Nintendo Reveals Upcoming Switch 2 Model Revisions, Switch Discontinuation in Europe

Nintendo has announced revisions to the Nintendo Switch 2 console and various Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 controllers in Europe. Coming about due to upcoming changes in European battery regulations, which come into effect in mid-February 2027, these revisions will see the devices equipped with a user-replaceable battery. The revised products will become available from this summer through to early 2027.

As part of the revisions, Nintendo has noted that it will continue manufacturing of new Nintendo Switch consoles for Europe. The current Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model will continue to be manufactured in 2026. However, after mid-February 2027, Nintendo will no longer sell the Nintendo Switch console hardware to retailers or directly through the Nintendo Store.
