Octopath Traveler 0 Details More Characters, Systems

Square Enix released new details and image for its upcoming turn-based RPG Octopath Traveler 0. The new update provides information on some of the game’s antagonists and companion characters, as well as a few of its gameplay systems.

Octopath Traveler 0′s story draws from that of mobile title Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. Players create their own customised protagonist, who is from the town of Wishvale. On the annual Day of Reverence festival, the town is attacked and engulfed in flames, setting the protagonist on the path of revenge or restoration. As players journey across the world of Orsterra on their quest, they form a party of eight members from a total of over thirty recruitable travelers.

The update reveals three antagonists: Herminia, Tytos, and Auguste. Herminia, known as the Master of Wealth, is a supposed witch whose own desires have caused the town of Valora to fall into darkness and depravity. Her involvement in Wishvale’s destruction comes after she learns of a certain ring. The Master of Power, Tytos is a supposed hero who leads a group of former criminals and is the tyrannical ruler of the town of Emberglow. He is the one responsible for setting Wishvale ablaze. Finally, August, the Master of Fame, is a renowned playwright in the city of Theatropolis. He visits Wishvale during the tragedy and uses it as inspiration for this work.

Meanwhile, joining the ranks of recruitable companions are Celsus, Macy, Alexia, Viator, and Ludo. Celsus is a Thief working as a bodyguard in Valore, who has great knife skills and is religiously devout. Macy is a traveling Apothecary visiting Emberglow, who is fairly easygoing except for when battling illnesses in others. Alexia is a Scholar investigating magic in ancient civilisations who hopes that the protagonist will be able to help her find a breakthrough in her research. Viator is a genteel Warrior who is looking for a certain sword in accordance with a family tradition. Finally, Ludo is a renowned Merchant in Sunshade who appears young but has great business acumen.

Octopath Traveler 0 includes a town-building system where players can rebuild Wishvale, freely placing down buildings while inviting new residents to move in. By placing down new buildings, players can unlock new facilities. Hubs will let them cook meals, fields and ranches will allow harvesting and gathering of materials, and shops will let them purchase and unlock new items and trade goods. Residents recruited can be assigned to various buildings, each having skills that can assist them in their roles.

As they progress through the game, players can obtain special Mastery items, which grant interchangeable skills. By placing a training ground, players will be able to train companions and master their skills so they can be equipped on other companions. Players will also obtain powerful Ultimate Techniques, which have multiple levels available depending on how full the gauge is. These can also be taught to other characters at the training ground. Finally, the player character themselves is able to switch between eight jobs: Warrior, Merchant, Thief, Apothecary, Hunter, Cleric, Scholar, and Dancer. Each job uses different weapons and skills.

Octopath Traveler 0 is set to release for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2025. The game is available to pre-order in standard $49.99 digital and physical editions; a $59.99 Digital Deluxe Edition that includes the game, a digital art book, and the Deluxe Travel Provisions in-game item DLC pack; and a physical $229.99 Collector’s Edition (via Square Enix’s online store).
