Hopetown Kickstarter Campaign Underway

Developer Longdue launched a Kickstarter campaign for its spiritual successor to Disco Elysium, Hopetown. This campaign comes with the release of a new video that sees the development team introducing the game and its various aspects.

Hopetown will put players in the role of a rogue journalist in a mining town on the edge of collapse. They are the middle child of one of the world’s richest men, but find themselves exiled by their family and being involved in one scandal too many. Players are tasked with finding out and writing the story on an incident that results in the deaths and disappearances of multiple people and the halting of mining operations in the town. As a journalist, players will be able to investigate leads, spin their own narratives, and use their learning to push people apart or bring them together. Emotions, memories, and conversations will play important roles in the game’s mechanics.

The Kickstarter campaign is set to run until April 16, 2025, and already surpassed its funding goal of £25,000 (c. $32,000). The stretch goals include contributions from composer Pawel Blaszczak (The Witcher and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt) and writer Martin Luiga (Disco Elysium) as well as extra content. Those pledging at least $25 (c. $33) will receive a digital copy of the game. Hopetown is expected to release in December 2028 on platforms that have yet to be announced.

Fascinated by the screens since I saw them, video games are a sorcery I quickly became obsessed with. This passion culminated with the discovery of the RPGs. At that time, they were likely the sole titles where story and world building mattered as much as gameplay. Now, I am writing about them, especially my favorite ones: the JRPGs!
