Hopetown Shows New Gameplay
Longdue released new media and details for Disco Elysium spiritual successor Hopetown. A new gameplay trailer and screenshots show some of its gameplay mechanics, with the developer also announcing that Olga Moskvina, one of the writers and editors for Disco Elysium has joined the development team.
Hopetown will put players in the role of a rogue journalist in a mining town on the edge of collapse on the island of Entre. Players will follow stories across the island, as one of three distinct journalism classes: Corresponden, Columnist, or Gonzo. Players can choose their character’s background and gender, follow various journalism-related mechanics. Examples include photographic inspection sequences, interviews, observations of people and objects, and what players decide to publish and any quotes or evidence used. Players will make use of twenty-one skills, each attached to one of seven personas — Nobody, Abacus, Journo, Animal, Fashionista, Huntress, and a secret seventh persona that may reveal itself during the game.
Hopetown is currently in development for PC and is available to wishlist on Steam. The game features a number of former Disco Elysium developers including ex-ZA/UM founder Martin Luiga, Software Developer Veljo Hagu, Technical Lead Piotr Sobolewski, Narrator Lenval Brown, and Art Director Astri Lohne. It underwent a successful Kickstarter campaign last year.
