Gothic 1 Remake Shares Its Essence

Publisher THQ Nordic released a making-of video for the upcoming action RPG Gothic 1 Remake. The thirteen-minute video, titled The Essence of Gothic, sees staff members of developer Alkimia Interactive sharing how they are reimagining the original Gothic while staying true to the source material.

Gothic 1 Remake is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, though a release window has not been announced. The original game was developed by Piranha Bytes and released for PC in 2001, with a Nintendo Switch port released in 2023. The game is an action RPG set in a medieval fantasy realm where anyone found breaking the law is sent to the giant penal colony of Khorinis to mine the much needed ore for a war effort against an Orcish invasion. It spawned two official follow-ups, as well as the Arcania spin-off that was originally titled Arcania: Gothic 4.
