Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero Reveals DLC Characters, Skullrock Island

NIS America released some new details and images for tactical RPG Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero. In addition to the extra characters from other Nippon Ichi franchises that appear in a post-game story, the game will also have a number of DLC characters available. The DLC characters include Scarlet, Sprout, Castile, and Walnut from the original Phantom Brave as well as Kotomo from Yomawari: Night Alone, The Liar Princess from The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince, Mad Rat and Heart from Mad Rat Dead, and Samayoi from Bar Stella Abyss.

In addition, NIS America detailed Skullrock Island, which acts as the player’s base for the game. The island plays host to a variety of facilities. Each facility requires a specific character or class to be unlocked. Apricot’s marina allows players to increase their party’s stats or gain other boosts based on the pirate ship selected. Meanwhile, having a Fighter or Striker unlocks learning new skills and abilities, while the Granny unit unlocks Fusion, which lets players strengthen a weapon by fusing it with a another weapon. In addition, players can strengthen items by synthesising them with Mana and materials, while items can also be converted into Mana to obtain their titles.

Titles can be used by the Old Man unit and are transferable labels that affect units equipped with them. Titles can be affixed to a dungeon, which sees all units within it receiving that title with the title gaining strength if players defeat the dungeon. Elsewhere, the Chef’s juice bar lets players redistribute experience to different characters, letting players transfer up to 100% of the experience that would be gained by deployed characters to the juice bar. Protagonist Marona lets players Awaken or Reincarnate units, allowing them to boost their strength or change class. Reincarnation sees the unit change class or race, being reset to level 1 while retaining their skills, abilities, and title. The unit also receiving an amount of Spirit tied to their current level, which can redistributed to their level 1 stats, keeping them much more powerful than a normal level 1 character.

The final facilities are dungeon creation, salvage, and gadgets. The Explorer lets players create dungeons using a map, which determines its location, enemies, stats, and obtainable items. Players can freely choose the dungeon’s title and obtain it as a reward for clearing it. Dungeons have multiple floors with enemy levels and the chances for rare items increasing as players go through floors. Players can choose when to leave a dungeon; if they are defeated they lose all obtained items and experience. Meanwhile, the Angler’s salvage operation lets players send out groups to different regions. These groups will spend a certain amount of time exploring the region and obtaining various items. Finally, the Engineer’s gadgets are created items that can be summoned onto the battlefield. These gadgets can destroy blocks, move items, and more.

A sequel to Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle, Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero is set in the oceanic world of Ivoire. As Marona and Ash return home from a regular job, they are attacked by the ghost ships of the Shipwreck Fleet, during which Marona’s powers are stolen by a masked man and she and Ash are separated. After washing ashore, Marona encounters a Phantom girl named Apricot who agrees to help her fight the new threat that looms over the seas of Ivoire. In their quest to assemble a crew capable to defeat the Shipwreck Fleet, they will have to become pirates themselves and fight to expand their territory. Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero will release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on January 30, 2025, with a PC version to follow in spring 2025.
