Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero Gets January Date
NIS America announced that tactical RPG Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero will release worldwide on January 30, 2025. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch, while a PC release will follow in spring 2025. A physical Limited Edition is available to pre-order now from NIS America’s online store for $99.99 that includes a physical Deluxe Edition copy of the game, an art book, the CD soundtrack, an art card set, an acrylic diorama stand, and a coaster.
In addition to the release date, NIS America also released some new details for the game as well as revealing a PlayStation 5 remastered release for its predecessor Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle. The remaster will launch on November 7, 2024.
Like Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle, Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero is set in the oceanic world of Ivoire. As Marona and Ash return home from a regular job, they are attacked by the ghost ships of the Shipwreck Fleet, during which Marona’s powers are stolen by a masked man and she and Ash are separated. After washing ashore, Marona encounters a Phantom girl named Apricot who agrees to help her fight the new threat that looms over the seas of Ivoire. In their quest to assemble a crew capable to defeat the Shipwreck Fleet, they will have to become pirates themselves and fight to expand their territory.
Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero continues the gridless combat of the original game. Characters are able to freely move within a certain radius on their turn. Marona’s powers allow allied Phantoms to possess, or Confine to, items on the map to participate in battle. In addition, Confriend allows Marona to be possessed by a phantom, granting her new abilities and potentially increasing her stats, while Confire allows a phantom to possess gadgets such as robots, tanks, and cannons that are dropped by her friend Apricot.
Combat flow starts with players getting to examine the map for any useful items, scout enemies, environmental quirks, and potential Protections. Marona begins as the only ally in battle, but she can Confine allies at will on her turn, with no limit on how many times she can use it. Allied Phantoms have a set number of turns they can be active for, though Marona can increase this with her Confight ability. Allies and enemies have various different attack skills and can also equip various items. Before executing an attack, players are given a prediction about how much damage their attack will do.
In addition to directly dealing damage, players can also lift up and throw items and enemies. Items can be tossed to another character to use them. Meanwhile, enemies can be thrown off the map, which causes them to become O.B. and sustain damage. Enemy characters that are lifted and kept hold of are unable to act on their turn and are used by their holder as a shield.
Maps are cleared by reducing all enemies to zero HP. Once a character hits zero HP they become incapacitated; however, if they are revived, they rejoin combat. If an incapacitated character takes any further damage, they instead become Fallen and are removed from the map entirely. Any Fallen allies will need to be revived back at the player’s home base.
