New Release Round-Up (September 19, 2024)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released in the last week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Cricket: Jae’s Really Peculiar Game

Turn-based RPG Cricket: Jae’s Really Peculiar Game follows titular protagonist Jae as he journeys with his friends to fix a past tragedy by finding the fabled land of Yimmelia on the moon, which is rumored to grant any wish. The game features a mixture of locations from forests and cities to rock concerts. Combat utilises timed hits and character combo attacks, with no random encounters. Players can also interact with the world, including dashing into NPCs, but such actions may have consequences. PlayStation 4 and Xbox console versions are planned to follow later this year.


Enotria: The Last Song

Platform: PC, PlayStation 5

Action RPG Enotria: The Last Song is set in a fantasy world inspired by Italian folklore and culture, where players control the only entity not bound by their own fate in an eternal play that keeps the world in stasis. Players can take on the strengths and abilities of defeated enemies by wearing their masks and can freely swap between up to three customisable loadouts at a time. An Xbox Series X|S release is also planned but does not yet have a confirmed date.


Final Fantasy XVI

The latest mainline entry in the long-running series, Final Fantasy XVI is more heavily action-focused and originally released for PlayStation 5 in June 2023. It is set in the high fantasy land of Valisthea, which is dotted with Mothercrystals, towering structures that spread aether. People have built up around the crystals, using the aether for magic and to help them live in comfort. Valisthea is home to incredibly powerful beings called Eikons, Final Fantasy XVI’s variant on the series’s summons, with protagonist Clive Rosfield becoming involved with the dark Eikon Ifrit. Get in the Car, Loser!

Road-trip RPG Get in the Car, Loser! sees the Machine Devil cultists spreading terror in order to summon the Machine Devil, who was previously sealed away by the legendary hero Agi of Roses. Against the wishes of the ruling Divine Order, three attendees of the local academy and a renegade angel embark on a road trip to defeat the cultists. The game features an action-time combat system, equipment-based character progression, and visual novel-inspired dialogue system. Those looking to read more can check out Sam Wachter’s review of its PC release. The Nintendo Switch release includes both its Battle on the Big Boardwalk and Fate of Another World DLC expansions.


Just a To the Moon Series Beach Episode

Just a To the Moon Series Beach Episode is a short spin-off to the To the Moon series that blends adventure game elements and classic RPG aesthetics. It sees the SigCorp. crew embark on a one-day, all-expenses-paid vacation at the Golden Lobster Hotel & Resort.


Keylocker

Cyberpunk turn-based RPG Keylocker is the latest title from the developer behind Virgo Versus the Zodiac and is set on a future Saturn where music is strictly prohibited. It follows B0B0 and Dealer, who are Doppelgangers, twins that are born to be perfect fits for particular societal castes. However, B0B0 fights against her position in the lowest caste, forming her own band in rebellion against the Saturnian Satellites that act as the ultimate law. The game’s turn-based tactical combat system features rhythm elements.


Touhou Genso Wanderer -FORESIGHT-

Roguelike dungeon-crawling RPG Touhou Genso Wanderer -FORESIGHT- is the latest entry in the Genso Wanderer doujin series. It follows Reimu Hakurei, who awakens in Hakurei Shrine without her memories after being defeated in battle. Alongside the deuteragonist, Marisa Kirisame, she begins her journey to reclaim her memories and prevent the destruction of Gensokyo from a mysterious enemy in the process.
