Altered Alma Kickstarter Campaign Underway

Developer 2Awesome Studio and publisher CRITICAL REFLEX launched a Kickstarter campaign for Altered Alma. The title is an action RPG with Metroidvania elements, which takes inspiration from various video games and movies including Hollow Knight, Mass Effect, Blade Runner, The Fifth Element, and more.

Altered Alma follows the adventures of Jack, an ex-mercenary pursued by her ancient comrades. The perilous journey will take players in the streets of the cyberpunk city of Neo Barcelona, where Jack will have to face gangsters and mechanical horrors, while assembling a crew for her spaceship, the Esperanza. The story is co-written by Antony Johnston, known for Resident Evil: Village and Dead Space, and Emma Beeby, who worked on Tails of Iron and F1 23.

Players will have to rely on the Quantum Blade — a tool allowing Jack to teleport instantly to its location — as weapon and mean to traverse various environments. As the player progresses in the game, the Quantum Blade will grow in power and gain new abilities, with other weapons to acquire and upgrade. The game features a crew management system inspired by Mass Effect 2, while players can build relationships that may turn romantic.

Altered Alma will launch in Q4 2025 for PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The Kickstarter campaign, which is set to run until October 3, 2024, has already surpassed its €40,000 (around $44,000) funding goal. Those pledging at least €20 (around $23) will receive a digital copy of the game. A demo is currently available on Steam.

Fascinated by the screens since I saw them, video games are a sorcery I quickly became obsessed with. This passion culminated with the discovery of the RPGs. At that time, they were likely the sole titles where story and world building mattered as much as gameplay. Now, I am writing about them, especially my favorite ones: the JRPGs!
