New Release Round-Up (July 4, 2024)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the last two weeks. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Ash of Gods: Redemption

Tactical RPG Ash of Gods: Redemption  features hand drawn art, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes, and combat that mixes turn-based and card-driven systems. The game features an open-ended storytelling system where all characters in the game can be permanently injured or killed, both in and out of battle, and the story will continue on without them, leading to one of seven different endings.


Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Action RPG Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion takes players to a new map separate from the Lands Between, though technically occupying the same space. The new area is said to be around the same size as the area of Limgrave, with the expansion will also include new bosses, weapons, and armour. Fate Seeker II

Action RPG Fate Seeker II was originally released in Chinese on Steam in 2021, with its predecessor released in 2018. The game is set during Ancient China’s Northern Song dynasty. Players control orphaned swordsman Zhuge Yu, who sets out to eradicate governmental corruption. The game features an open-world map and a debate system used for players to solve mysteries, as well as the ability for players to mix different martial art styles in combat. Its existing PC release on Steam is also planned to updated with English language support at a later date.


Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail

MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV’s latest Dawntrail expansion takes place after the events of Endwalker, and marks the start of a major new story arc for the game. Dawntrail sees the Warrior of Light’s help requested for Tural’s contested rite of succession. The expansion will add two new Jobs: melee DPS role Viper and ranged DPS role Pictomancer. The expansion will also include a new level cap of 100, new dungeons, new locations, new side content, and more.


The First Descendant

Online looter shooter The First Descendant takes place on a world that mixes sci-fi and fantasy, and features co-op for up to four players. Players control a Descendant, one tasked with defending the Ingris continent and fighting against alien invaders to help ensure the survival of humanity.


The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak

Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak is the start of a new story arc and takes place a year after the events of Trails into Reverie. It is set in the Republic of Calvard, to the east of Crossbell and the Erebonian Empire that acted as the settings for the series’ previous titles. The game stars Van Arkride, who works as a spriggan — effectively a private detective and mercenary — based out the Old Town district of Calvard’s capital city Edith. It features a new combat system that includes real-time exploration actions alongside the series’ traditional turn-based combat. Zenless Zone Zero

Zenless Zone Zero is an urban fantasy action RPG set in the post-apocalyptic metropolitan city of New Eridu. It is the only place to have survived a supernatural disaster in which gateways to perilous dimensions called Hollows appear and expand. Players control Proxies, those who guide others exploring the Hollows.
