New Release Round-Up (March 21, 2024)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Across the Obelisk

Across the Obelisk sees players creating a party and taking part in turn-based tactical combat. It features single player and co-op with up to three others as the party takes its own path that branches across the world based on their decisions. The base game features sixteen playable characters, over 500 upgradeable cards, and over 200 items. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S console releases are planned for this summer.


Dragon’s Dogma 2

Action RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 takes place in a parallel world to the original Dragon’s Dogma and Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. Players control a customised character known as the Arisen, a champion whose heart has been stolen by the Dragon. Players are joined by up to three NPC Pawn allies, one created themselves with two others summoned from other worlds. The game’s setting features two major nations that treat the Arisen and their Pawns in different ways.


Final Fantasy XIV

MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is set in the fantasy region of Eorzea. Players control an adventurer who joins one of the regions’s Grand Companies, participating in quests and missions before being recruited into a group called the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. The game has received four expansions — Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker — with its fifth — Dawntrail — set to release this summer. Both Heavensward and Stormblood are included in the game’s Starter Edition, with all four released expansions included in the Complete Edition.


Grand Soul Saga

Platform: PC, Mac

Grand Soul Saga is a turn-based RPG inspired by a mixture of classic RPGs. Players control a refugee in the crumbling city-state of DuPont. Teaming with a scrappy crew of smugglers, alchemists, and wanderers, players aim to venture westward to the port of Yerdan where their family hopefully awaits.


Horizon Forbidden West

Platform: PC (previously released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5)

Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn and follows Aloy as she travels to the remains of the western United States to investigate a red blight that is wreaking havoc on the environment and weather. Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery

Tactical RPG Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery acts as a spin-off to the Girls’ Frontline series. It is set 30 years after the events of Girls’ Frontline during the Second Cold War and follows Antarctic Union agent Mendo and the mysterious girl Jefuty as they aim to stop the plans of the Union of Rossartrism Nations Coalitions. Players make various decisions throughout the game, leading to one of thirteen possible endings. The game features over sixty potential stages, with missions ranging from covert stealth to full-on combat encounters against powerful foes. Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android releases are planned to follow at a later date.


Rise of the Ronin

Platform: PlayStation 5
Publisher: Sony

Action RPG Rise of the Ronin sees players controlling a wandering Ronin during the chaotic Bakumatsu era in late 19th-century Japan. The game features open world exploration with action combat that mixes the weapons of the time, such as katanas being used alongside newly established firearms.


Slice & Dice

Platform: PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android

Price: $8.99 (free download with in-app purchase to unlock full game on mobile)

Slice & Dice is a a dice battle roguelike. The game sees players controlling five heroes, each with their own unique dice, as they work through twenty levels of monsters. After each battle, players can level up a hero or gain an item, but if players lose a fight they need to start again from the beginning.


The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered

Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch (previously released on Nintendo 3DS)

Price: $49.99

The Legend of Legacy is a turn-based RPG that acted as a spiritual successor to the SaGa series before SaGa’s revival in recent years. The game is set around the island of Avalon, which was discover ten years prior. The game follows the stories of seven heroes who venture onto the island for their own reasons. Its combat makes heavy use of formations and combat roles, as well as elemental spirits.
