New Release Round-Up (April 28, 2022)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Alder’s Blood: Definitive Edition

Tactical RPG Alder’s Blood features a Victorian/Western fantasy setting, with players leading a crew of hunters on a quest to kill a corrupted god. The quest is made even more dangerous by the presence of monsters and darkness, which can summon additional monsters. The game features a unique ambush system to let players get the drop on monsters that they’d otherwise be no match for. Demon Gaze Extra

Dungeon-crawler Demon Gaze Extra is an enhanced version of PlayStation Vita title Demon Gaze. It is set thousands of years after the events of Students of Round — which was recently remade as Saviors of Sapphire Wings — and follows Oz, a young man who has a magic eye capable of sealing demons.


Echoes of Mana

Echoes of Mana is an action RPG developed by Another Eden developer WFS. The game features an original story involving both new and returning characters from the series.


King Arthur: Knight’s Tale

Tactical RPG King Arthur: Knight’s Tale puts players in the role of Sir Mordred, King Arthur’s nemesis. Despite killing each other in battle, both Arthur and Mordred still live, and The Lady of the Lake — the ruler of the island of Avalon — tasks Mordred with finishing off Arthur, or whatever his body has become. The game sees players selecting a team to go out on missions and encounters against seven enemy factions. It also features a morality chart, with player decisions leading to different branches in the story.


Legend of Ixtona

Legend of Ixtona is a strategy RPG set in the kingdom of Ixtona. is a retro-styled turn-based JRPG. It follows Prince Kyle, after his brother Erbax murders his father and seizes the crown.


Light Fairytale Episode 1

Light Fairytale Episode 1 is a 3D turn-based RPG inspired by some of the classics within the genre. It stars Haru and his friend Kuroko, who live in a dying underground world and band together to topple an evil empire. Its sequel, Light Fairytale Episode 2, is currently available on PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.


Rogue Legacy 2

Like its predecessorRogue Legacy 2 sees players controlling generations of adventurers in a randomly-generated world. Each time the player character dies, the world is regenerated — though bosses remain defeated — and a new hero is selected from a list of options, each with their own class and quirks that can help or hinder. Players are able to upgrade their home manor, ensuring the subsequent generations get stronger.


Rogue Lords

Rogue Lords is a party-based roguelike set in a version of the 17th century where mortals and other entities live side-by-side, where players control the Devil after he is forced to retreat to Hell following a defeat. In addition to regaining his powers, he looks to restore the spread of corruption and re-exert his control over the world. To do this, he forms a team of others dedicated to evil, including Bloody Mary, Dracula, the White Lady, and Baron Samedi.


Unsouled

Unsouled is a fast-paced, top-down action RPG. The game follows a boy and a girl who both have the mysterious ability to absorb the souls of the dead. Players use the souls of their fallen foes to become stronger, improve combat abilities, and unlock new skills. Earlier versions of the game had been available through Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview.


Watcher Chronicles

Platform: Nintendo Switch (previously released on PC)

2D action RPG Watcher Chronicles takes place in Purgatory, where a group of evil beings known as the Watchers attempt to turn it into a new Hell. Players fight against enemies, including twenty-plus bosses, in challenging combat as they adventure through its interconnected locations. The game includes two-player local co-op and a new game plus mode.
