Touhou Spell Carnival Reveals New Characters, Release Date

Compile Heart have released a new trailer for Sting’s upcoming strategy RPG / bullet hell hybrid Touhou Spell Carnival. The video, which can be viewed below, previews the game’s unique combat system and announces a release date. Touhou Spell Carnival will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch in Japan on April 18, 2024. No news about a localization has been announced at this time.

A spin-off from the Touhou Project franchise, Touhou Spell Carnival features a unique combat system requiring players to strategically position themselves in a bullet hell environment while utilizing various cards and bombs to help dodge the deluge of enemy attacks. The story takes place in the realm of Gensokyo, where the shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei is drawn into a festival to battle for shrine cards and discover the purpose behind mysterious pillars that have appeared across the land. New characters revealed today include:

• Yukari Yakumo: One of the sages who created Gensokyo who can manipulate time and space
• Remilia Scarlet: A vampire maiden who has lived for several centuries and causes trouble to sate her boredom
• Sakuya Izayoi: The perfectionist head maid at Remilia’s Scarlet Devil Mansion
