New Release Round-Up (February 16, 2023)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development, with this edition also including entries missed in the column’s absence last week.


Arcadia Fallen

Arcadia Fallen is a visual novel with RPG elements set in a fantasy world where players control an apprentice alchemist (with customisable appearance and gender) bound to an illegal spirit who is drawn into a war between humanity and magic forces. Gameplay is heavily dialogue-focused, with players choosing responses often assigned particular moods or tones. Boyfriend Dungeon

Boyfriend Dungeon is an action RPG/dating sim that features different weapons that transform into humans (and a cat). Players earn cash by using these weapons to slay creatures in “the dunj”, using that cash to go on dates with them and build up their relationships. Elderand

Elderand is an action side-scrolling RPG. Players explore a twisted Lovecraftian world, customising their character build with different skills, stats, and weapons. It features over 60 enemy types and around a dozen bosses.


Heirs of the Kings

Retro-styled turn-based RPG Heirs of the Kings follows Grant, who encounters a girl named Laura being pursued by soldiers and who can mysteriously use high-level magic. He learns from her that the world is in peril from the Forces of Darkness and sets out with her on a journey.


Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society

Dungeon-crawler Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society is a follow-up to Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk. The game features a brand new cast and is set in a remote estate that is said to have a labyrinth filled with mysterious treasures. Madame Marta and her assistant Eureka travel to the estate to investigate the labyrinth, tasking players with exploring the labyrinth using soul-infused puppets.


Nadir: A Grimdark Deckbuilder

Nadir: A Grimdark Deckbuilder is a roguelike deckbuilder drawing inspiration from Dante’s Divine Comedy as well as Slay the Spire and Darkest Dungeon. It puts players in charge of three powerful characters known as Avatars, and set in the eponymous city of Nadir, which is home to the souls of the damned and has multiple levels extending into the abyss, with a great power lying at the bottom. Each level features its own theme and includes enemy types and challenges, with players only having a certain amount of time on each floor.


Perseus: Titan Slayer

Perseus: Titan Slayer is based on Greek mythology and sees players controlling the eponymous demigod as he battles his way through Tartarus to stop Hades from conquering Olympus. The game features hack-and-slash combat with players able to wield a sword, dagger, bow, or katana, and create their own character builds. It also includes branching choices, and players can obtain legendary upgrades from various Olympian gods.


Souls of Chronos

Platform: PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch

Souls of Chronos is an action RPG set fifteen years after an apocalyptic event. It begins in the harbour town of Astella and follows a young boy named Sid and a young girl named Tori. Tori is a Chronus, one with powers over time who are bonded to a human partner known as a Linked through a pact. Sid is looking to escape the town and explore the wider world, which he does as he becomes involved in a case that threatens to upend the world.


Tales of Symphonia Remastered

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch (previously released on Nintendo GameCube, PC, PlayStation 3)

Tales of Symphonia follows Lloyd Irving, who accompanies his childhood friend Colette Brunel as she embarks on a journey of world regeneration to save their world of Sylvarant. The game features action, combo-focused combat with a mixture of 2D and 3D roaming elements, with the remaster including the original GameCube version’s four-player local co-op. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line

Platform: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch

Rhythm title Theatrhythm Final Bar Line marks the first time the series will be available on home consoles and will feature similar gameplay to previous entries in the music-based spin-off franchise. It includes two-player couch co-op and up to four-player online rhythm battles. The game features 385 Final Fantasy tracks, with 27 more exclusive to the Digital Deluxe Edition and 90 more added with the Season Pass that includes tracks from other series such as SaGa, Live A Live, The World Ends with You, and NieR.


Wild Hearts

Platform: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

Action RPG Wild Hearts takes place in a world inspired by feudal Japan that is beset by magically-infused beasts known as Kemono. Their presence is destroying the land and players are tasked with restoring the balance of nature. Players can combat them solo or in teams of up to three, with Karakuri, ancient technology that players can use in a variety of ways.
