Square Enix Shares More Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion Media, Info

Square Enix released more media and details for Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion ahead of its launch in a couple of weeks. In addition to a new three-minute pre-launch trailer, the company released screenshots showing characters, battle stances, mini-games, and combat abilities.

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion is a remaster of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, a prequel to the original Final Fantasy VII. The game follows SOLDIER Zack Fair, but also includes Final Fantasy VII characters Tifa, Cloud, and Sephiroth. Zack encounters Tifa when she is tasked with guiding him and Sephiroth to the Nibelheim Mako reactor.

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion includes new combat elements, one of which is battle stances. Once Zack acquires the Buster Sword, he can use AP (attack points) to take a Battle Stance. These have effects such as enhancing his defence, deal special strong attacks, or boost his abilities.

The game also includes various mini-games and sub-events. Mini-games offer rewards such as gil and items, some of which are used to trigger sub-events. Examples include the squats challenge in the Shinra Building’s training room and building a flower wagon for Aerith. Zack will also receive mail from numerous people throughout the game, providing more details about the world and characters. He can also get mail from the fan clubs for Sephiroth, Genesis, Angeal, and Zack.

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion’s combat lets Zack use magic — which uses MP — by equipping Materia, eventually giving him access to powerful spells such as Energy and Flare. Other Materia let him use abilities that consume AP instead, such as Poison Blade, which poisons enemies, and Hammer Punch, which ignores the target’s VIT defence stat. In addition, the game’s Digital Mind Wave (DMW) feature lets players utilise summons. The DMW triggers effects based on the numbers that appear in the top-left of the screen. When it enters summon mode, the figures in the top-left become summons — such as Odin and Phoenix — and players can unleash the summons’ Limit Break. The DMW can also enter Chocobo Mode, giving Zack access to abilities from creatures such as the previously shown Chocobo Stomp and Cactuar’s 1,000 Needles, as well as Moogle Power and Cait Sith’s Courage Boost.

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion will release for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on December 13, 2022. The remaster includes graphical enhancements, pacing improvements to the game’s real-time combat system, a reworking of its DMW and Limit Break systems, new summon animations, new enemy attack mechanics, full voice acting, and a re-arranged soundtrack from composer Takeharu Ishimoto.
