Like a Dragon: Ishin! Announced, Launching in February
Sega and Ryū ga Gotoku Studio announced Like a Dragon: Ishin!, a full remake of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series spin-off that released for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan but did not release internationally. The game takes place in the chaotic 1860s Bakumatsu period in Japan around the city of Kyo (a fictionalised version of Kyoto) and sees various characters from the regular series transplanted into the setting.
The game follows Sakamoto Ryoma, a true historical character portrayed by long-time series progatonist Kazuma Kiryu. Sakamoto becomes embroiled in a coup d’état and searches for the killer of his mentor, taking on a hidden identity and joining the Shinsengumi “secret police”. While the original game featured cast members taken from across Yakuza 1–5, the remake will also add new popular characters from Yakuza 0, 6, and 7 (Yakuza: Like a Dragon).
Like a Dragon: Ishin! will let players use four different combat styles in its action battles. The Swordsman and Gunman styles are focused on their respective weapons, while the Wild Dancer style acts as a hybrid using both weapons and the Brawler style using bare fists. The game will also feature the series’ traditional special heat actions using the environment and nearby items, as well as a variety of mini-games.
Like a Dragon: Ishin! is being developed for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will release internationally on February 21, 2023.
