Square Enix Provides More Harvestella Details

Square Enix published a new blog post providing more details and screenshots for its upcoming action RPG/life sim Harvestella. The blog post introduces the town of Nemea, as well as covering some of the game’s combat and life sim gameplay elements.

Nemea is known as the town of spring as it is next to the Spring Seaslight, which ensures its flowers bloom all year around. However, a giant egg appears on the Seaslight and the town has in turn come under monster attacks. Players visit the town and investigate the problems with the Seaslight alongside Asyl, one of the members of the town’s guard. One character to be found in Nemea is Istina. She is a teacher who lives at the town’s orphanage. She is intellectual and reserved, and arrived in the town a few years prior, with her interactions with the player character delving into her hidden past.

Harvestella features action combat with a job system. After previously introducing Fighter, Shadow Walker, and Mage, the post details the Sky Lancer job. As its name suggests, the Sky Lancer uses a spear and is adept at physical attacks with wind-based attributes. Due to his wide-range, it is useful for taking on multiple enemies. New Jobs, including Sky Lancer, are unlocked by recruiting characters with those jobs. Major characters, as well as those that can be recruited, each have their own Character Story. These focus on the character’s personal issues, and can grant combat benefits and other rewards.

In addition to combat, Harvestella features many elements form farming and life sims. This includes harvesting produces, with examples as spring crops being the Nemean Tomato, Wisty Peach, Cucumble, and Strawbuddy. These can in turn be used to create meals such as Nemea Bolognese, Peach Rose Mousse, Zucchini and Mince Sandwiches, and Strawbuddy Shortcake. The game also includes fishing, with players able to sell their caught fish or cook with them. Selling produce is one of the main ways to earn money in Harvestella, and players can use machines to create or craft items to sell for a greater profit.

Harvestella is set in a fantasy world where four crystals called the Seaslight create harmony between the four seasons. However, abnormalities appear leading to the Quietus, a season of death that occurs between the seasons. The Quietus sees crops wither, while people are unable to step outside, and appears to be getting longer each year. The game is being developed for PC and Nintendo Switch, and is set to be released on December 4, 2022.
