Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp Story, Hype Cards Detailed

Spike Chunsoft released new information and images for board game/RPG hybrid Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp. The update details the game’s story premise and character-enhancing Hype Cards.

Danganronpa S is a spin-off to the main Danganronpa series where the murderous events do not occur. The game sees the Ultimate Students from Hope’s Peak Academy preparing to graduate by attending a 50-day Talent Development Camp. The camp takes place in the virtual reality Neo World Program, with the students entering capsules that take care of their bodies while on the virtual Jabberwock Island.

The island is home to the Monokubs, who use their wands to support the students and create anything needed by the camp. However, Monokuma has decided to make the camp a serious outing, stealing a wand, transforming the island, and summoning dangerous Monobeasts. The students are required to battle Monobeasts and grow their talents to obtain their own Hope Shards. The game’s main story advances every time players obtain the Hope shards for ten characters.

Hype Cards are gained from the same MonoMono Machines where players can obtain new characters. These cards enhance character abilities and increase their maximum growth capacity, with nine varieties available for each character. A Hype Card drawn will apply to the character regardless of rarity or game mode. The card featuresi llustrations from guest artists including ponizuka/8ent., Bandai Mayo, Sameyama Jiro, Eku Uekura, Yuupon, CHAN×CO, and Kingin.

In addition, players can gain presents from the MonoMono Machines, which use Monocoins obtained during the game. These presents include effects such as increased card inventory size or a discount from shops. Modes can be started with up to two presents held and present are used up when activated.

Danganronpa S will feature in-game transactions to obtain cards, but these will not be random, with players able to select which card to receive. Players can spend $0.99 to obtain one card of their choice, $1.99 for three cards, or $2.99 for five cards, with a one-time $0.99 option to buy three cards also available. Players will not receive duplicate Character or Hype cards from the MonoMono Machines and in-game Monocoins cannot be purchased with real-world money.

Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp is a new title that is part of the upcoming Danganronpa Decadence bundle, a Nintendo Switch release that includes the three mainline Danganronpa mystery adventure titles Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. Danganronpa Decadence is set to be released for Nintendo Switch on December 3, 2021, with all four games also available to pre-purchase individually through the Nintendo eShop now. A physical edition containing all four games on one cart is available to pre-order for $59.99, while a Collector’s Edition that includes a 18″x24″ cloth poster, three lenticular cover art prints, a 10-track soundtrack CD, and a collector’s box is available to pre-order for $99.99.
