Marvel’s Midnight Suns Gameplay Shown

2K Games and Firaxis Games showcased the first gameplay footage for the recently-announced Marvel’s Midnight Suns. A six-minute game overview trailer and another three-minute trailer show a number of elements from the tactical RPG, including its original customisable protagonist, story elements, strategic card-based combat, multiple locations, and character bonding and growth.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns puts players in the role of a character called the Hunter, with players able to select their appearance and powers. They lead a “darker order of heroes” — including Iron Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Blade, Ghost Rider, and Wolverine — against Lilith, attempting to defeat her before the Darkhold is complete. The game will release in March 2022 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

And my enthusiasm stumbled hard. I really love the concept and Firaxis’s previous works, but the moment I saw the card mechanics, I find myself hardpressed to get it. I’ve never liked and never been able to wrap my head around it when their main mechanic is wrapped around layers of RNG.
