RPGamer Wants You: Hiring Call

Please note that all positions at RPGamer are voluntary and unpaid.

RPGamer is currently actively looking at adding new members to our dedicated volunteer team. We currently have positions available in both our writing and streaming sections, with specific details on the roles available below. If you’re looking to break into the gaming industry or have a strong affinity for the RPG genre and a love for writing, then RPGamer may be the ideal place for you. RPGamer is constantly looking to expand and improve upon its core team in a variety of areas and to give our readers and community the opportunity to join our team and help create more RPG-focused content for others to enjoy.

RPGamer is a strictly volunteer-run site and all positions are currently unpaid, but this isn’t to say that working here is without other rewards. Those writing for the site are encouraged to go about it as professional a manner as possible, letting its writers have their content be read by a wide audience and the most renowned video game companies in the industry, and the site always aims to provide feedback to help its writers improve. Volunteering here is an excellent way to break into the gaming world; many of our former staff have gone on to work with development houses and media outlets both in the US and abroad.

  • Please note that you must be at least 18 years old to apply. Sorry, no exceptions.
  • Applicants will need to be self-motivated and able to work autonomously. If you are unable to work without constant supervision then RPGamer is probably not the place for you.
  • No experience is required to join RPGamer, but certain positions require relevant samples.

Writing Positions

We are currently actively looking for new writers to fill roles in our News and Features departments. We are also accepting inquiries to join our Review and Specialist Column/Editorial teams, but please note we will be prioritising the positions listed below.

News

  • News Writer is generally considered an “entry-level” position at RPGamer to help writers get a sample of what it like writing on a games site as well as to get used to various policies and the general editing process. There are opportunities for regular News Writers to transition to other areas of the site.
  • News Writers will be expected to produce roughly two-three news articles on two or three days of each week. Press releases, story sources, and media will often be provided.
  • News Writers will need to follow RPGamer’s policy of not speculating in news articles and not reporting on rumours or leaks.
  • News Writers will be expected to assist others by proof-reading their articles when able to.
  • Like all other positions, News Writers are welcome to get involved in staff-wide features produced by RPGamer.

Features Lead

  • This is a new position dedicated specifically to creating new features for the site.
  • The Features Lead will be expected to come up with and/or act upon new feature ideas for RPGamer, as well as assist in certain regular features.
  • The Features Lead will not be expected to create a feature entirely on their own and is actively encouraged to solicit contributions from other members of the site, but will responsible for coordinating responses and producing the final article.
  • The Features Lead will be expected to assist others by proof-reading their articles when able to.
  • There are opportunities to branch out into other areas of the site.
  • A writing sample is required for this role.

Interested candidates can apply by filling out the form found in the link below. All roles other than News Writer require a relevant writing sample, which it is preferred to have included with your application. Samples do not need to adhere to our guidelines and are used primarily to give an indication of willingness to put in necessary effort for the position and the likely amount of training needed. You may wish to prepare any samples in advance of filling out the form (links to articles posted elsewhere are accepted for sample purposes).:

Streaming Positions

In addition, we are looking to expand our regular Twitch streaming team with one to two people. Those interested will need to willing to stream regularly on the following days and within the following windows. Please note these are broad ranges and we absolutely do not expect a potential streamer to cover the entire period listed, just a two or three hour within the range, on two to four days each week.

Mondays 1:00pm – 8:30pm
Wednesdays 1:00pm – 8:30pm
Fridays 1:00pm – 5:30pm
Saturdays 3:00pm – 8:30pm
Sundays 7:00pm – 11:00pm
(All times EST)

Ideal candidates will be able to pick up at least one weekday slot; we are not looking for a strictly weekend streamer at this time. Candidates who have stable schedule and can commit to the same time blocks every week are strongly preferred; we rotate our streaming schedule every six months, at which point every member of the stream team can adjust their schedule. You will be expected to make 90% or better of your scheduled streams — we get that sometimes life happens. Interested candidates can apply by filling out the form found in the following link; please include a sample stream archive (Twitch VOD preferred, YouTube link also acceptable).
