Destiny 2: The Witch Queen Gets Big Showcase Event

Bungie held a showcase for Destiny 2 detailing the studio’s upcoming plans for the game. The most major announcement was the reveal of the game’s next expansion, The Witch Queen, which is set to launch on February 22, 2022. The company also announced its plans for its 30th anniversary and details for the next season of the game, the Season of the Lost.

The latest chapter in the ongoing Light and Darkness saga, The Witch Queen sees Guardians discovering the secrets behind Savathûn, the Witch Queen. Arriving at her Throne World, players face the Lucent Brood, enemies from the Hive capable of using the same Light powers the Guardians use. The expansion will also add weapon crafting for the first time in the series, as well as a melee weapon known as the Glaive. The expansion is now available for pre-order on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.

Those who pre-order will get instant access to a Special Exotic Ghost Shell and Legendary emblem. A Digital Deluxe Edition is also available, featuring a Season Pass for Year 5, access to the two dungeons releasing in Year 5, the Enigma Exotic emote, an Exotic Submachine gun, and a Throne World Exotic Sparrow. A physical Collector’s Edition for The Witch Queen is also being produced, which contains a hidden psychic investigation kit, a Hive Ghost replica, a hidden keycard, a lore booklet, and other “mysteries” from the Throne World in addition to the content of the Digital Deluxe Edition.

For its 30th anniversary, Bungie is planning a list of additions to be added to Destiny 2. The first is a free six-player matchmade activity that sees players solving mysteries and collecting rewards about Bungie’s history. The Bungie 30th Anniversary pack, available for pre-order in a bundle with The Witch Queen, will give players access to a new dungeon, the Gjallarhorn Exotic Rocket Launcher, new weapons inspired by Bungie’s past, the Thorn Armor set, and a list of exclusive ornaments and cosmetics.

Finally, the company gave details regarding the upcoming Season of the Lost. The event features the return of Mara Sov, the Queen of the Awoken, who seeks an audience with Savathûn. Players will be tasked with aligning ley-line networks in order to find Mara Sov’s lost tech witches who, once found, can allow players to see the true landscape. Bungie also revealed that cross-play is now available across all platforms.
