The Wicked King and the Noble Hero Shows Locations, Monsters

Nippon Ichi Software released new Japanese media and details for the upcoming The Wicked King and the Noble Hero. A new four-minute narrative trailer introduces the game and its picture book style, while new screenshots further detail a number of elements.

The game follows a human child named Yuu and the dragon that acts as her foster parent as she adventures in a world inhabited by monsters. Locations include a forest at the base of a mountain, a cave, a snow-covered hill, and a village where friendly monsters reside. The village gives Yuu a place to buy tools and find those who can help in her goal to become a hero.

The Wicked King and the Noble Hero features a monster compendium that is automatically filled in as players encounter foes. Each foe has a weakness, which can be an attribute or specific action, with Yuu’s Observe skill giving players a clue as to what that weakness is. For example, a moss-covered frog-like monster dislikes being ignored. When a monster’s weakness is exploited it might lose the will to fight and players can choose to be kind and let it escape.

Outside of the main story, Yuu will find numerous characters seeking help, which act as sidequests such as defeating certain monsters, gathering special herbs, etc. These requests can be done at any time and are collected into an adventure log and provide numerous rewards such as useful items, money, and Star Fragments. These Star Fragments can be used to unlock concept art in the game’s collections gallery.

The Wicked King and the Noble Hero is being developed for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The game will be released in Japan on June 24, 2021. No announcement has been made regarding a western release at this time.
