Final Fantasy XI Mobile Cancelled

Square Enix and Nexon have announced that Final Fantasy XI Mobile has officially been cancelled. Development on the project started in 2015 with a targeted release date in 2016, though news about the game and updates about its status were limited until recently. The companies, which were in joint development, determined that the game did not meet their expected standards.

Released in 2002, Final Fantasy XI was the first in the series to jump into a massively-multiplayer online RPG format, and it has spanned multiple platforms, having five expansion packs, free additional content, and live servers to date. The game puts players in the faraway land of Vana’diel, with players choosing among three different nations as starting points.
