Xuan-Yuan Sword VII Receives Update, PS4 Version Launching in February

A new update is available for Softstar Entertainment and DOMO’s action RPG Xuan-Yuan Sword VII. The update adds a new more challenging Nightmare difficulty setting and a new boss called Tundou that can be added as an escort after being defeated, and a New Game Plus option. It also features some adjustments to the stun, parry, and counter-attack mechanics, as well as a new title track composed by Yoko Shimomura.

In addition, the companies revealed that the PlayStation 4 version of the game — which launched for PC worldwide and for PlayStation 4 in Southeast Asia in October 2020 — will release in North America and Europe in February 2021. The western PlayStation 4 release will also see the addition of Russian, German, and Spanish language support, which will be available on both the PC and PlayStation 4 versions.

Xuan-Yuan Sword VII is the latest entry in the long-running Taiwanese RPG series. Xuan-Yuan Sword VII is set in a version of China about 2000 years ago, towards the end of the Western Han dynasty. Players control Taishi Zhao, a swordsman who sets out on a journey to protect his family. The story features elements of Chinese mythology and history, with a focus on the Mohism philosophy of logic and rationality. The game’s version of Mohism has allowed its adherents to gain technological advancements ahead of their time. A demo that features the opening portions of the game is available via Steam.
