Code Vein Screenshots Show New Area, Weapons

Bandai Namco has released new screenshots and details for its upcoming action RPG Code Vein. The first few screenshots focus on the character of Jack, who runs across the protagonist multiple times during the game. He is feared by many Revenants as he has killed many of them in the past. During the game, he runs across a Revenant named Eva who is suffering from blood thirst, though it is as yet unknown how he reacts to her.

Bandai Namco also showed a new area of urban ruins that have been buried in sand. Enemy Lost use the sand to sneak up on Revenants and take them by surprise. The sand also causes Revenants to lose Ichor (equivalent of MP), preventing them from using the special Gift abilities.

The last set of screenshots shows some new weapons types. The Bayonet is a ranged weapon type, with two examples shown. The Dark Bayonet has a powerful single attack as well as a charged attack that fire five bullets at once and can stop quick enemies, while the Riot Smasher has a powerful attack geared towards dealing with close enemies as well as a charged attack that fire more bullets and increases their range. Meanwhile, the Axe type also gets two examples. The Solid Piercer specialises in thrusting attacks and its charge attack generates a stunning shock wave, while the Bisected Garnet does a slash attack that generates a shock wave with its charged varsion generating a stronger slash and wave.

Code Vein is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a phenomenon called the Thorns of Judgment has laid waste to human civilisation. As a result of this phenomenon, surviving humans have gained supernatural abilities at the cost of severe bloodlust that can turn them into members of the mindless cannibalistic force wandering the world known as the Lost.  Code Vein is set to be released in 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Pascal Tekaia, Zack Webster, and Chris Privitere were all able to briefly check the game out at E3 and reported back with their impressions.
