Kickstarter Check-In: Sun Haven, Patagon: The Forbidden Island

RPGamer’s ad hoc Kickstarter Check-In feature returns for a look at two ongoing crowdfunding campaigns. This edition features Pixel Sprout Studios’ Sun Haven, as well as Something Awesome Games’ Patagon: The Forbidden Island.

Sun Haven

Pixel Sprout Studios’ Sun Haven is a multiplayer farming sim/fantasy RPG. The game is set in the eponymous, struggling town of Sun Haven, and it is up to players to help revitalise it. Nearby the town is the monster city of Withergate, which has been rumored of late to attract creatures with strange technology.

Players have freedom in what role they play in Sun Haven, such as farming, mining, fishing, or adventuring. It also includes questlines and sixteen romanceable NPCs. The game includes 50 types of crops, over 40 types of fish, and numerous fantasy creatures to raise. It also includes a cooking system, with over 40 current recipes and more being added. Combat is real-time and features melee, ranged, and magic attack options. Up to eight players can join together in online multiplayer.

Pixel Sprout Studios is looking for $44,700 in funding with the campaign set to run until October 29, 2020. Those who pledge at least $25 will receive a copy of the game as part of their backer rewards. Sun Haven is being developed for PC and Mac, with potential mobile and Nintendo Switch versions under consideration, and is currently expected to launch in May 2021.

Patagon: The Forbidden Island

Something Awesome Games’ Patagon: The Forbidden Island is a virtual-reality steampunk RPG, though a non-VR version will also be available. It takes place in an alternate world where the British Empire continues to exist and zeppelins are the primary method of travelling around the world. Players control a retired army lieutenant turned hunter and explore an island inhabited by dinosaurs.

Patagon: The Forbidden Island lets players fully explore the open seven-square-mile island and features a mixture of stealth, action, and puzzles. The game includes multiplayer for up to four players, who can either play through the main campaign or one-shot missions. The world features a two-hour day-night cycle with enemies that behave differently depending on the time of day and NPCs that are only available at certain times. Players will be able to customise their character.

Something Awesome Games is looking for $30,000 in funding with the campaign set to run until October 30, 2020. Those who pledge at least $29 will receive a copy of the game as part of their backer rewards. Patagon: The Forbidden Island is being developed for PC and PlayStation platforms and is currently expected to fully launch in late 2021. The game will support PlayStation VR and all headsets that support Steam VR.
