Kickstarter Check-In: Mandragora

Developer Primal Game Studio has begun a Kickstarter campaign for its side-scrolling action RPG Mandragora. The game is intended to be a challenging but rewarding title drawing inspiration from titles such as Castlevania, Dark Souls, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It is being developed with support from Marvelous Europe for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, and is currently planned for release in 2023.

Mandragora is set in the world of Faelduum, which is in decline as the boundary between it and another realm called Entropy fades, unleashing monsters into the world. Players attempt to take their world back from the monsters, using the legendary Witch Lantern to explore Entropic Corridors, parts of the world already claimed by Entropy. Players can upgrade their Witch Lantern and gain access to a Talent Tree that lets players spend more time in the Entropic Corridors or fight more effectively.

There will be over 60 different enemies, as well as ten bosses and five mini-bosses. Each enemy has its own offensive and defensive abilities, and will drop Essense when defeated, which can be used to level-up, learn new abilities, and upgrade the Witch Latern. Death will see players respawning at the previous checkpoint; any unused essence is dropped but can be recovered. Players have multiple classes to choose from, as well as a large Talent Tree, and can find or craft various pieces of equipment with different properities to create their own character builds.

Primal Game Studio is looking for $110,000 in funding, with the campaign set to run until October 25, 2022. Those who pledge at least $25 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards.
