Gothic Interactive Fiction RPG The Lich Wars Announced
Developer Psychic Software has announced The Lich Wars, a gothic interactive fiction RPG that acts as a standalone prequel to The Necromancer’s Tale. The game is currently in development for PC and is available to wishlist on Steam.
The Lich Wars is set in an alternate history, with players put into the role of a new recruit in the kingdom of Rulsthen’s Rychva Musketeers in 1701. They are soon thrust into a war with Venice that runs until 1708 until it is won through necromancy. The game follows their military career up through the civil war of 1727-1728, with choices impacting relationships, career progression, character survival, and the outcome of the war.
The Lich Wars tells its narrative through a 3D book, with key scenes making use of tabletop miniatures, including numerous original illustrations, portraits, and maps, as well as partial voice acting. Players can make use of nine different skills, with combat taking players through duels, naval battles, and full warfare in narrative driven by randomised critical-hit tables.
