The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Launching in November

Nintendo held a special Nintendo Direct presentation for the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake as well as its wider 40th anniversary celebrations for the series. The video, presented by series producer Eiji Aonuma, revealed that the game will release for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time originally released for Nintendo 64 in 1998, with a Nintendo GameCube version released in 2003 and a Nintendo 3DS remake released in 2011. The game was the first in the series to utilise 3D graphics. Its iteration of Link begins as a young boy living in Kokiri Forest, who is accompanied by the fairy Navi, and sets out on a quest to stop Ganondorf from obtaining the Triforce. The game sees Link travelling back and forth through time, with his ocarina playing an important role through magical songs that have various powers.

The remake will feature overhauled visuals, including brand new material textures, as well as reworked actions and controls, faster load times, refreshed sounds, and symphonic orchestral music. It will include additional button commands, as well as camera control using the right stick. In addition, the game includes expanded cutscenes and conversations, with cutscenes being fully-voiced, while the game’s locations have been fully remodeled and include new details. A new Threads of Time in-game tapestry will update players on their progress and current story objective, while the game will also recognise humming or instruments for its ocarina controls. The Zelda Notes smartphone app will also have additional features for the Ocarina of Time Remake, including gameplay records, a virtual ocarina, and a daily quiz.

Nintendo will also be releasing a new Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition system on October 28, 2026. The system will be joined by anniversary editions of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller (with and without a display stand) and Nintendo Switch 2 carrying case with screen protector. In addition, there will be two ocarinas released later this year — a playable version and an electric version from HORI — while new Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo figures will launch in 2027, which can be used to unlock special in-game masks.

Finally, Nintendo revealed additional upcoming Zelda-themed partner items and experiences. The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Concert series will take place in 2027, starting in Japan in January, with a North American tour starting February, a European tour starting in April, and an Australian tour starting in May. The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, Japan will receive anniversary activities, while there will also be a 1,750-piece LEGO The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – Link & Epona collectible display model set available starting spring 2027, as well as a 27-inch Hasbro Legend of Zelda Electronic Master Sword, including over fifteen touch- and motion-activated sounds, also releasing in spring 2027.
