Strategy RPG Brigandine: Abyss Announced

Happinet and NIS America have announced strategy RPG Brigandine: Abyss. The game is planned to release later this year for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. A physical edition will be released in North America and Europe for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The game follows the 2020 revival of the series through Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia.

Brigandine: Abyss is set in a brand-new world where hundreds of years prior, the Abyssloa Empire was stopped by the power of the arcane Brigandine. However, a new empire rises, seeking to conquer the world. The game offers six different story campaigns as they attempt to stand against the empire while managing their resources. In addition to the story campaigns, the game also features a Missions Mode, which lets players control one of twenty-four factions, each with their own win conditions.

Gameplay is divided into two phases and retains the series’ traditional hex-grid maps. The Organization Phase lets players organize troops and resources, while the Attack Phase sees units take to the field.

Given the 20 year gap between the first two games, I was pretty surprised by this announcement. Hopefully, they improve the AI at both the strategic and tactical level for skilled players, or at least leave the PC version in a mod friendly state for the community to improve it.
