Darkest Dungeon II’s Steadfast Steward Update Out Now

Red Hook Studios has officially released its latest free update for Darkest Dungeon II on PC and Mac. The “Steadfast Steward” update includes UI improvements primarily focused on tooltips and tokens; hero reworks for the Plague Doctor, Runaway and Occultist; Ordainment and Memory system changes; a new run modifier section to the Altar of Hope; combat and driving speed toggles; and more. A full set of patch notes can be found on the game’s official website. The update is planned to release on consoles soon.

In other news, the developer announced that the game’s third free Kingdoms module will release at the end of August on PC and Mac. This module will see the return of the Crimson Courtiers. Afterwards, there will be a future update featuring hero reworks for the Hellion and Leper. The developer put out an image celebrating the game’s recent anniversary, noting the updates made to it so far and current plans.

A follow-up to 2016 turn-based roguelike Darkest Dungeon, Darkest Dungeon II released for PC in 2023 with PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch versions following in 2024. The game sees players tasked with guiding a stagecoach expedition across a decaying landscape to try and avert the apocalypse. It features a refined version of the previous game’s combat with a new Token System. Each failed run grants resources that can be used on upgrades for future attempts. The game also includes an affinity system between party members, and players can learn more about their heroes’ backstories.
