The Outer Worlds 2 Launching in October
Obsidian Entertainment revealed that its first-person sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds 2 will release on October 29, 2025. The follow-up to The Outer Worlds will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will be available in a $79.99 standard edition and a $99.99 Premium Edition. The Premium Edition includes five days early access, a DLC pass contains access to two future expansions, an in-game item set, and a digital artbook and soundtrack. The announcement came with a new trailer and Direct video revealing plenty of details about the game.
Set in the same universe as The Outer Worlds, The Outer Worlds 2 features a new player-created protagonist and crew of allies in a new star system. It takes place in the colony of Arcadia, with players controlling an Earth Directorate agent tasked with uncovering the source of devastating rifts threatening the galaxy.
Arcadia is home to three competing factions. The Protectorate is a powerful military regime that exerts full control over its populace. Auntie’s Choice is a merger of Auntie Cleo’s and Spacer’s Choice that promises fulfillment, where the only choice people need to make is which Auntie’s product to get next. Finally, the Order of the Ascendant is a group of rogue scientists turned faith-based futurists, attempting to solve the Universal Equation, worshipping patterns, predicting the future using maths, and performing rituals in labs. The game features a radio system where players will hear the news of their actions and choices as told by each faction.
Gameplay in The Outer Worlds 2 expands upon the systems of the original game, with new traits and flaws as well as new science weapons and armour. Players will be joined by six companion characters: Niles, another Earth Directorate recruit; Inez, a former experiment from Auntie’s Choice; Aza, a chaos-loving Rift worshipper; Marisol, a killer from the Order of the Ascendant; Tristen: a judge from the Protectorate; and Valerie, a floating support unit.
