The First Berserker: Khazan Details Backstory and Lore

Nexon and Neople provided some additional information detailing the lore and backstory for upcoming action RPG The First Berserker: Khazan. The game is set in the developer’s Dungeon & Fighter (DNF) universe, which has been expanding since the original game, Dungeon Fighter Online, launched twenty years ago. It has been created so that players new to the setting can enjoy its story, which diverges from that of the mainline universe. In addition to the new details, the companies also put out a new trailer for the game, which can be viewed below.

As its title suggests, The First Berserker: Khazan focuses on Khazan as well as his personal life and journey of revenge. In Dungeon Fighter Online, he is a legendary hero from the Pell Los Empire who lived 800 years ago. He rose up to become the Great General of the Pelos, but was accused of treason with his good friend, Ozma, known as a great mage. Khazan’s family is killed, the tendons in his arms are removed, and he is sent into exile, while Ozma has his eyes removed and is thrown into the sea. Soon after, Ozma trades his soul to become the God of Chaos and take revenge upon the world, also turning Khazan into the God of Destruction to join Ozma in this quest, but Khazan and Ozma do not meet eye-to-eye in this goal. While disappearing from history, Khazan becomes known as the God of Destruction and the origin of a curse called the Khazan Syndrome.

The following timeline details the original Dungeon Fighter Online lore for Khazan and Ozma:

• Arad Year 152 — Khazan and Ozma defeat Berserk Dragon Hismar, which terrorized the Pell Los Empire. While they become heroes in the eyes of the populace, their emperor is not pleased. As they become more renowned, the emperor grows ever more jealous before accusing them of false charges.
• Arad Year 157 — Khazan is the first accused of treason, and he runs away with his followers to avoid persecution. Khazan’s friend Ozma is ordered by the emperor to subjugate him and does as ordered. However, after the two meet and are about to fight, an imperial army shows up and arrests both of them. The pair are dragged to an underground prison and tortured. Khazan is then told that his entire family has been killed, while Ozma is told that his lover, Reese, has become the emperor’s concubine, with both realising they have been setup by the emperor. Before being able to act, however, Khazan has the tendons removed from both of his arms and is sent into exile beyond the Stru Mountains, and Ozma has his eyes removed before being thrown into the East Sea.
• Arad Year 158 — Ozma trades his soul to be the God of Chaos in order to exact revenge on the world. He also turns his dying friend Khazan into the God of Destruction to take part in his revenge, but their paths differ.

The First Berserker: Khazan diverges from the original lore into its multiverse tale by reconstructing the story at the time of his exile. Thanks to an avalanche interrupting events, he is able to escape his planned exile, meet the mysterious Blade Phantom, and obtain new powers for his quest of vengeance. The First Berserker: Khazan will release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 27, 2025.
