New Release Round-Up (December 12, 2024)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released in the last week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.

Breath of Death VII: The Beginning: Reanimated

A remake of Zeboyd Games’s turn-based parody RPG Breath of Death VII: The Beginning, Breath of Death VII: The Beginning: Reanimated is set in a future where humanity has been wiped out thanks to a nuclear war, their place now taken by the undead. It follows the skeletal hero Dem, who is joined by companion Sara and other allies they pick up along the way. Chernobylite

Chernobylite is a survival horror RPG that follows Igor, a physicist and former employee of the Chernobyl Power Plant, who is investigating the mysterious disappearance of his fiancée, Tatyana, thirty years ago. The game recreates the real-life Exclusion Zone site using 3D-scanning technology and features free exploration, stealth, combat, crafting, base-building, resource management, and a non-linear story. A sequel, Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone, is planned to release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2025.

Deck of Souls

Deckbuilding RPG Deck of Souls lets players create their hero from a number of classes before building a custom deck to face their foes, the “offspring of darkness”. The souls of slain enemies can then be turned into new cards to further customize the deck. Bosses also have a unique mechanic that allows players to decide to execute or spare them to earn their assistance. The game had been in Early Access since June 2024.

Enotria: The Last Song

Action RPG Entoria: The Last Song is set in a fantasy world inspired by Italian folklore and culture, where players control the only entity not bound by their own fate in an eternal play that keeps the world in stasis. Players can take on the strengths and abilities of defeated enemies by wearing their masks and can freely swap between up to three customisable loadouts at a time. Fairy Tail 2

Fairy Tail 2 is a sequel to 2020 release Fairy Tail. It features a real-time battle system, as opposed to the turn-based gameplay of the first title. The game will retell the Alvarez Empire Arc from the original manga, while also including an original storyline available after clearing the main story campaign titled “The Key to the Unknown”. Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered

Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered is a remastered collection of action adventure titles Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2, originally released in 1999 and 2001 respectively. The games make up the second and third titles in the Legacy of Kain series. Both games follow the story of Raziel, a vampire who is executed and resurrected as a wraith to take revenge on his master, Kain.

Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island

Roguelike dungeon-crawler Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island sees Shiren and his trusted ferret companion Koppa adventure on the eponymous island, where he is joined by his friend Asuka and supported by innkeeper Suzuna. Each time players enter one of the procedurally-generated dungeons, they start at level 1, with any gear and levels obtained being lost if they collapse during exploration. Snowman Story

Snowman Story follows a snowman called Chris on his journey to the far north, where he hopes to find a fabled paradise where his kind aren’t doomed to melt each spring. During the journey, he encounters various woodland critters, puzzle stages, and the stories of previous snowmen who have attempted the same journey. Xuan Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament

Action RPG Xuan Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament is a standalone title in the series and begins with the Jade Emperor opening the gates of heaven in the hopes of finding a mortal worthy enough to be gifted with divine powers to help find his lost daughter. After this power is abused, the gates are sealed and a young man from the mortal realm, Sikong Yu, must lead a group of heroes to bridge the realms and restore peace. The game features real-time combat and gives players the ability to capture demons and turn them into allies, fuse with them, or use them to enhance equipment.
