Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Provides Combat Details
Sega and Ryū ga Gotoku Studio provided some more information for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. The new details and screenshots cover the game’s brawling action RPG system as players control Goro Majima, who travels across the ocean to recover his identity after suffering amnesia while being shipwrecked on a deserted island.
Majima is able to switch between two combat styles: Mad Dog and Sea Dog. Mad Dog sees Majima combining fists, kicks, and knife strokes in quick combos. It comes with a Madness Gauge that increases as players deal damage, which eventually allows them to summon doppelgangers to maximise Majima’s attacking power. Meanwhile, Sea Dog sees Majima dual-wielding cutlasses while in pirate gear, leading to powerful finishing moves. Its Madness Gauge instead allows Majima to use treasures known as “Dark Instruments” to summon four different dark deities.
The Sea Dog form also allows players to utilise three different side weapons: Cutlass Boomerang, Pistol, and Chain Hook. The Cutlass Boomerang unleashes a wide range of damage, while the Pistol creates an explosive blowback effect and the Chain Hook lets players launch themselves at enemies. The Dark Instruments will be found by plundering certain defeated rival pirate crews. The violin summons man-eating sharks, while the guitar calls down a massive ape, the saxophone brings a giant bird that generates tornadoes, and the ocarina brings forth a giant shocking jellyfish.
In addition to regular combat, the game also features naval battles where Majima pilots the Goro Maru, trying to avoid fire while bombarding the enemy with its own cannons. Players can customise the ship, outfitting it with armour and armaments, as well as strategically deploying the crew. Naval battles will also lead to on-deck battles where Majima and crew fight hand-to-hand. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii also features the Pirates’ Coliseum, where Majima can participate in events ranging from one-on-one fights to free-for-alls against other crews.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is set to release worldwide on February 21, 2025. The game will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
