Metaphor: ReFantazio Developers Discuss Game Elements

Atlus released a new behind-the-scenes video for the upcoming Metaphor: ReFantazio. The fourteen-minute video, which was included in a Japanese livestream, features director Katsura Hashino, character designer Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro, who discuss various elements of the game. Subjects covered by the trio (dubbed in English) include the game’s setting, its combat and magic systems, musical inspirations, and more.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is set in the United Kingdom of Euchronia. During the unrest following the assassination of the king, a magic known as the Royal Magic is invoked, which leads to a tournament for the throne. Meanwhile, the player character and their fairy partner Galica are on a mission to break a curse on the prince, who is believed to be dead by the rest of the kingdom. Metaphor: ReFantazio is being developed by the team behind recent Persona titles and was initially teased in 2016 under the code name “Project Re Fantasy”. The game is planned to release in fall 2024 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
