Fate/Samurai Remnant Gets More Media, Details

Koei Tecmo released new media and information for the upcoming Fate/Samurai Remnant. In addition to releasing its second story trailer, the company detailed and provided images for more characters appearing in the game and some additional gameplay elements.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is the latest title in the Fate multimedia franchise, which features pairs of Masters and heroic spirits — known as Servants — fighting in order to emerge victorious in various Holy Grail Wars and obtain an artifact capable of granting wishes. Fate/Samurai Remnant is set in the fourth year of the Keian era in Edo period Japan (around 1651 CE). While the populace is enjoying a time of general peace, the Waxing Moon Ritual is unfolding in the shadows and seven pairs of Masters and Servants will begin battling in a new Holy Grail War. The game stars Asakusa resident Miyamoto Iori, a master in the Niten Ichiryu style of swordsmanship, who is caught up in the new Holy Grail War alongside his servant Saber.

Two new Servants introduced in the update are Archer and Assassin. Archer is loyal, courageous, and fierce, wielding a bow and arrow. His Master is Zheng Chenggong, who he shows respect to. Meanwhile, Assassin is a phantom dressed in gray and said to be able to summon and manipulate multiple serpents. Assassin’s Master is currently unknown.

Fate/Samurai Remnant also introduces the concept of Rogue Servants. These are warriors without a Master, and players will be able to form bonds with him, which lets them borrow their powers or even have them as allies in battle. Rogue Servants include returning and brand new characters for the franchise. Rogue Lancer, true name Cú Chulainn, wields a crimson spear and is fairly belligerent, while Rogue Archer, true name Arjuna, wields a blue-flaming bow and is pure and respectful. Rogue Rider, whose true name is Tamano Aria, is able to captivate others with her appearance and behaviour, and enjoys riding on other people.

Finally, there are Rogue Saber and Rogue Berserker, whose true names are unknown. Rogue Saber is an armored figure who rides a gray horse. He is pursuing an enemy known as the Evil Ogre. Rogue Berserker is a long-haired muscular figher. He has lost all rationality and accompanies Takao Dayu for unknown reasons.

Fate/Samurai Remnant includes a gameplay element called the “Spirit Font Conflict”. These are competitions for spirit fonts across Edo. Players attempt to acquire fonts, which act as enemy strongholds, by making a certain number of movements on a gridded up. If a font is gained, it adds a ley line that connects it to the player’s base and temporarily boosts protagonist Iori’s abilities. Rogue Servants can be used as units with the Spirit Font Conflict, with some Rogue Servants only being usable in it.

Iori’s abilities can also be strengthened through his magecraft workshop, where he can learn new skills. The workshop can be upgraded, granting access to skills that let Rogue Servants join in in combat. The workshop also features a sword maintenance mini-game, which provides bonus effects in battle.

Fate/Samurai Remnant will release internationally on September 29, 2023. The game is being developed by Omega Force in collaboration with Type-Moon and Aniplex, and will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. A limited Treasure Box Edition is available to pre-order now from NIS America’s online store in North America and Koei Tecmo’s online store in Europe.
