Atomic Heart Gives Pre-Launch Game Overview

Focus Entertainment and Mundfish released an eight-minute gameplay video for Atomic Heart ahead of the action RPG’s release later this month. The video gives an overview of many elements of the game, including its setting and premise of a 1955 alternate Soviet Union where a collective of assistant robots connected to a giant neural network conduct most manual labour.

Players control Major P-3, an elite Intelligent Service agent, sent by the network’s creator Dimitry Sechenov to investigate the manufacturing plant known as Facility 3826 after the launch of a new version of the neural network is sabotaged, causing the robots to attack humans. The facility, based in the Kazakh mountains, featured expansive complexes, laboratories, civilian buildings, and sprawling underground tunnels.

Gameplay is first-person and features both melee weapons and firearms alongside a crafting system. The game promises a mixture of horror, battle arenas, and puzzles, interspersed with cinematic events. Players are accompanied by CHAR-les, an AI integrated into their power glove, who acts as a sidekick providing additional information throughout the game while being able to hack robots and other equipment. CHAR-les also provides access to abilities including an energy shield, plus telekinetic and cryogenic powers.

Atomic Heart will release on February 21, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A physical Limited Edition containing a SteelBook case, art book, metal poster, and a weapon skin pack DLC is available to pre-order from Focus Entertainment’s online store. Meanwhile, its digital Gold and Premium Editions include access to the Atomic Pass, which will provide access to four upcoming DLC.
