Disgaea 7 Goes Touring the Hinomoto Netherworlds
Nippon Ichi Software released new details and media for tactical RPG Disgaea 7. The update details the game’s “Netherworld Tourism” systems, where players can sightsee in the various worlds of the Hinomoto Netherworld Cluster.
As players progress through the game, they are able to visit worlds they have brought peace to. The worlds have additional conversations, mini-games, and more. Each of the sightseeing worlds is home to units with different colourings that are not obtainable elsewhere, and players can recruit them. There are special quests given by characters helped by protagonist Fuji and his allies, which provide more details about those characters. Players can also find new treasure chests and shops that carry items unique to that Netherworld.
Certain worlds contain their own mini-games. One example is Demonic Tsume Shogi, in which players must create a Demonic Intelligence, or behavioural ruleset, to allow a stage to be completed in the shortest possible time. Another is the Hinomoto Martial Arts Tournament, where players fight in a tournament against strong warriors. Demonic Tsume Shogi has five difficulty modes, with various awards given based on how long it takes to finish each stage. There are no penalties for retrying or adapting the Demonic Intelligence on the spot. The Hinomoto Martial Arts Tournament also features five ranks of challenge.
In addition, Nippon Ichi Software revealed more character classes appearing in the game. Shown in this update are Armor Knight, Mecha Girl, Celestial Host, Rifle Demon, Pincer Shell, Slumber Cat, and Shroom. The company also released two new Japanese trailers, part of a series. The first video gives a basic introduction to Disgaea, while the second details the game’s new Dodeka MAX system, where units can grow to a giant size, covering an entire side of the battlefield.
Disgaea 7 takes place in the Hinomoto Netherworld Cluster, a netherworld inspired by Japanese culture that is losing its “Bushido” lifestyle after being taken over by the corrupt Oedo Shogunate. The story follows lazy samurai Fuji and Hinomoto otaku Piririka, who collect an odd assortment of allies as they search for the Seven Weapons of Origin in order to defeat the Shogunate. Disgaea 7 is set to release for for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch in Japan on January 26, 2023, with no announcement made regarding a western release at this time.
