Nintendo Wii U, 3DS eShops Shutting Down Next March

Nintendo announced that it will be shutting down the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShops in March 2023. After this, players will no longer be able to purchase games or content, nor download additional free content and demos on both systems. Players will remain able to re-download any purchased content, receive updates, and play online.

Prior to the shut down, Nintendo will be removing certain eShop features for both systems. As of May 23, 2022, players will not be able to add funds using a credit/debit card to their account via the Wii U or 3DS eShops, though users who have linked their Nintendo Network ID to their Nintendo Switch account wallet will be able to use the shared funds. As of August 29, 2022, it will not be possible to use a Nintendo eShop Card to add funds via the Wii U or 3DS eShops. Download codes will still be redeemable up until the shut down. Additional details can be found on Nintendo’s website.
