New Release Round-Up (February 17, 2022)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Cyberpunk 2077

The dedicated PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions for Cyberpunk 2077 come alongside the game’s major Patch 1.5 update. The action RPG is based on Mike Pondsmith and R. Talsorian Games’ Cyberpunk tabletop RPG and follows V, a player-created character in Night City who is left for dead after a failed heist and becomes entwined with the legendary figure Johnny Silverhand.


Home Behind 2

Roguelike RPG Home Behind 2 is set in the fictional war-torn country of Scaria. The game follows Banan, a student who had been studying abroad and has returned home to join a revolution. Players control a small force and must act strategically to survive the attacks of enemy soldiers.


Horizon Forbidden West

Platform: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5

Action adventure RPG Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn. It follows Aloy as she travels to the remains of the western United States to investigate a red blight that is wreaking havoc on the environment and weather.


Puzzle & Dragons Nintendo Switch Edition

Gem-matching RPG hybrid Puzzle & Dragons Nintendo Switch Edition features three gameplay modes: Quest Mode, PvP Mode, and Custom Mode. Quest Mode lets up to four players team up to take on monsters and dungeons. PvP Mode lets up to eight players compete for the highest score in matched games, friend lobbies, or contests against the AI. Custom Mode lets players generate their own dungeons and share them with others.


River City Girls Zero

Platform: Nintendo Switch

River City Girls Zero is a Nintendo Switch port of Japanese-only Super Famicom beat-’em-up Shin Nekketsu Koha: Kunio-tachi no Banka. The game stars regular Kunio-kun characters Kunio and Riki, but Misako and Kyoko are also playable. River City Girls Zero includes the original 16-bit graphics as well as a new animated opening, manga-based event scenes, and a song from Megan McDuffee. PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One releases are also planned for this spring.


Shadow Madness

Shadow Madness is a turn-based RPG originally released in 1999 and sends players to the world of Arkose. The realm is being afflicted by an incurable disease that’s known as shadow madness, which turns the victim into an unrecognizable monstrosity. Acting as the last line of defense, a small band of orphans must find a solution to the illness before it spreads across the land.


SpellMaster: The Saga

Open-world fantasy RPG SpellMaster: The Saga is set in the world of Allion, with players controlling a wizard who aims to set up his own magic academy. Players will explore the ruin-filled world, home to monsters and other threats, while improving their skills and building up their academy, including managing the faculties and helping train other wizards.


Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden

Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch

Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden is the second entry in the card-based Voice of Cards series following October 2021’s Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars. It features a standalone story set on a remote chain of islands that have been protected by the Maidens for generations. Like its predecessor, Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden is played and told entirely through cards. Throughout the game, players make choices that affect the story and participate in turn-based battles reminiscent of tabletop RPGs.
