New Release Round-Up (January 13, 2022)
Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.
Tactical RPG Battle Brothers puts players in charge of their own mercenary group in a medieval fantasy world. Players recruit new members, equip and train their troops, and choose which contracts to take on in a procedurally-generated campaign.
Action RPG Eternal Radiance was originally announced under the title Destiny Chronicles and underwent multiple Kickstarter crowdfunding campaigns. The game follows the journey of a young squire named Celeste and her two travelling companions as they search for a thief who stole a valuable artifact.
Mary Skelter 2
Dungeon-crawling RPG Mary Skelter 2 is a follow-up to Mary Skelter: Nightmares and features new protagonist Otsuu. The series follows fairy tale-inspired Blood Maidens as they attempt to escape from a mysterious underground jail that contains stalking monsters called Nightmares. Like the Nintendo Switch release, the PC version of Mary Skelter 2 comes with Mary Skelter: Nightmares included.
Mercenaries Rebirth: Call of the Wild Lynx
Mercenaries Rebirth: Call of the Wild Lynx is the sixth entry in Rideon’s Mercenaries series and is set around the kingdom of Astras. The main protagonist is Irvin, former leader of a famous mercenary group who now acts as a lone wolf but retains a strong sense of loyalty to his clients. Mercenaries Rebirth features isometric turn-based tactical combat with 3D maps where height is a factor.
Monster Hunter Rise
Monster Hunter Rise is the latest mainline title in the Monster Hunter series. The game includes two new major gameplay features — Wyvern Riding and the vertical-movement-assisting Wirebug — while Palamutes join Felynes as support-based companions. It also adds the Rampage, a gameplay mode where players are tasked with defending the village from numerous monsters attacking at once with assistance from defensive emplacements.
