Star Ocean: The Divine Force Announced

Square Enix and tri-Ace announced a new title in the Star Ocean sci-fi RPG series. The game, titled Star Ocean: The Divine Force, is being developed for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, and is set to release sometime in 2022.

Star Ocean: The Divine Force is set in the year 583 SD, just under 50 years after the events of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness and a little under 200 years before the events of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. The game features two main protagonists: Raymond and Laeticia. Raymond is the captain of the Ydas merchant vessel, which belongs to his family’s Lawrence Logistics company. As he is not affiliated with the Pangalactic Federation, which has seemingly diverged from its previously peace-oriented origins, Raymond is not bound by the Underdeveloped Planet Preservation Pact that prohibits contact with less developed worlds. On a regular transport mission from the planet Verguld, the Ydas is attacked by the federation battleship Astoria, with Raymond and crewmate Chloe forced to abandon ship and head for the remote planet Aster IV.

At the planet, an EMP-like energy burst knocks out the escape pods’ systems and separates Raymond and Chloe. Raymond get attacked by hostile wildlife but is rescued by Laeticia, crown princess of the Kingdom of Aucerius, who asks Raymond to use his advanced technological powers to save the kingdom from the neighboring Vey’l Empire. Other important characters are stated to be Elena, the Ydas’ first mate, and Albaird, Laeticia’s knight and childhood friend.

Star Ocean: The Divine Force will feature 3D exploration, with players able to utilise airborne travel in the game’s field areas. It will include a new iteration of the series’ familiar action combat with players able to start battles using exploration elements such as jumping off cliffs.
